It’s official.
Tasmania is today one step closer to being granted an AFL licence after all AFL club presidents voted unanimously to issue the game’s 19th licence.

The licence now lies in the hands of the AFL commission for final approval.
AFL boss Gillon McLachlan is expected to officially announce the decision in Hobart later this week.
The announcement of $240 million in federal funding for a 23,000-seat stadium at Hobart’s Macquarie Point cleared the last obstacle for Tasmania’s bid.
The team is set to enter the league in 2027 and will initially play games at Hobart’s Bellerive Oval and Launceston’s York Park before moving to a new stadium in 2028-29.
