Kingston man charged with arson after allegedly setting fire to occupied house

A 46-year-old Kingston man is due to face the Hobart Magistrates Court this morning after allegedly setting fire to a house while someone was inside.

Police allege the man went to a home on Redwood Road shortly after midnight on Sunday morning and lit a fire inside the property.

A male occupant was in the house at the time but was not seriously injured.

The man has been charged with arson, assault, property damage and breaches of bail conditions.

He was arrested on Sunday and has been held in custody ahead of his court appearance.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are asking anyone with information who has not yet spoken with investigators to contact Kingston CIB on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers Tasmania on 1800 333 000.
