A 16-year-old learner driver from Spring Creek has taken over a coffee truck with tens of thousands of social media followers, with her mum riding along in the passenger seat.
Cherry Wherrett started serving from the Estro Coffee truck early last week. She is leasing it from her brother-in-law’s sister on a six-month trial.
“I was just offered it and I was like, ‘Why not? It sounds fun and it’s a good experience for me and I love coffee,'” she told Pulse.
Wherrett had only drunk a few coffees before taking on the truck, but said making them was “super fun”.

Because she is still on her L plates, her mum has offered to sit in the passenger seat while she drives to each location.
“I drag her around everywhere,” Wherrett said.

The business also forms part of her home-school business studies.
Wherrett sells coffee, juices and biscuits and hopes to add iced drinks. Her sister’s ceramics and cards are also for sale in the truck.
She described the converted Suzuki Carry as “a little blue truck” that is “very slow going up hills”.
Wherrett said early feedback had been good, with customers asking where she would be next. She posts a weekly schedule on Facebook and Instagram.

She thanked Shalom Devenish for the opportunity and the work she had put into the business, which has 59,000 followers on Facebook and 38,000 on Instagram.
Devenish founded Estro when she was 18 and has since moved to the Blue Mountains.
Wherrett said she was not sure what would come after the six-month trial. She said she would love to start her own small business or continue with Estro.
“I’ll decide from there where I go,” she said.
