Labor has started its federal election campaign in the key battleground seat of Lyons, with Tasmanian candidates putting the spotlight on investments in local healthcare.
Speaking at the Bridgewater Medicare Urgent Care Clinic, Labor candidate Rebecca White said their Medicare initiatives are already making a big difference across Tasmania.
“Every day about 50 people are coming in to get free access to health care that’s making an improvement for them and their hip pocket,” she said.
“I’m really excited the election’s been called. I’m ready to get to work. I’m ready to work with the team that we’ve got here on the ground in Tasmania to deliver again a re-elected Labor government.”
“So that we can continue to build on the great things that I know have made a massive difference for Tasmanians already over the last three years.”
Labor has pledged to expand its Medicare Urgent Care Clinic program to eight locations across the state, as part of its plan to make nine out of 10 GP visits free for Tasmanians.
That includes new clinics in both Kingston and Sorell, with the latter also proposed by the Liberal Party.
Franklin MP Julie Collins said Labor’s election pitch also includes more energy bill relief, tax cuts for Tasmanians and free TAFE.
“This election is a clear choice between building Tasmania’s future and Australia’s future under Labor or risking it,” she said.
“A vote for anybody other than Labor is a risk that you’ll get Peter Dutton who’ll cut services and he’ll make you pay.”
