A Woolworths checkout operator from Legana has been crowned the best in Australia.
Lachie Bovill this week took out the Checkout Operator of the Year title, capping off a journey that began with his regional win in August.
The decade-long Woolworths veteran beat competitors from across the country to claim the top honour after flying to Sydney for the national awards.
Bovill has become something of a local celebrity at the Legana store, known for his infectious personality and dedication to customer service.
He has worked at Woolworths Legana since 2013, starting out on the floor tidying shelves, aisles and boxes before joining the checkouts.

The win has sparked a wave of congratulations from across the community, including from Premier Jeremy Rockliff.
“Yes!! Well done Lachie!! Awesome achievement, congratulations,” the premier wrote.
Customers and colleagues have flooded social media with messages celebrating the win, many sharing stories of Bovill’s warmth and kindness.
One customer recalled him being “one of the first friendly faces” they met after moving to Tasmania, while a colleague called his national recognition “incredible” following his earlier state success.
In a video previously shared on the store’s TikTok account, Bovill described his workplace as “one big happy family”.

“My favourite thing about this store is the people,” he said. “We’re all friends and also the customers are all friends.”
Bovill first won the Tasmania and Victoria regional title in August before progressing to the national competition.
