Large hailstones are expected to fall this afternoon as severe thunderstorms sweep across the Midlands and East Coast.
The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a warning for lightning, damaging winds and heavy rainfall.
Flash flooding is also possible in the warning area over the next several hours, the Bureau said.
“A southerly change is colliding with a warm and unstable airmass to its north to produce severe thunderstorms this afternoon over eastern Tasmania.”
“Locations which may be affected include Oatlands, Campbell Town, Swansea, Bicheno and Orford.”
The State Emergency Service is urging residents to move their cars under cover or away from trees and to secure any loose outdoor items.
“Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters. Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees,” authorities said.
