The Tasmania Fire Service and State Emergency Service have opened a new joint $3.2 million operations hub in Campbell Town.
The state-of-the-art facility will serve as a central location for emergency services to meet, train and coordinate operations during emergencies.
Fire and Emergency Services Commissioner Jeremy Smith said the complex is positioned to serve both the local community and people that traverse the Midland Highway.
In the event of a major bushfire in the region, the facility can function as a staging area capable of supporting hundreds of firefighters.
“This facility provides a base for not only our operations but also our incident management teams going forward and also for the business of SES and TFS,” he said.

Police, Fire and Emergency Management Minister Felix Ellis said the design of the facility, combined with the new vehicles it houses, will enhance response capabilities.
“The volunteers here, many of them are dual-hatters serving among both services,” he said.
“And so to recognise that a facility that caters for both services is critical.”
