Launceston Airport is expecting record-breaking crowds this summer, with nearly a quarter of a million passengers predicted to pass through the terminal.
Between December 22 and February 6, an estimated 235,167 passengers are expected to arrive and depart from the airport to destinations including Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
The figure is a record for the airport and is over 30,000 more passengers than last year’s count, with a total of 203,251 passengers traveling to and from Launceston during the same period in 2022.
Last week, Airport CEO Shane O’Hare announced the successful completion of the recent $14 million upgrades to the check-in hall and security screening point at the northern gateway.

He said passengers can expect faster processing times and less hassle without the need to remove items such as laptops from bags prior to screening thanks to the new enhanced security technology.

“We are expecting 2.5 million passengers through these doors each year by 2040 and it is imperative that we put the right processes and technology in place today to cater for the future,” he said.
“Everyone hates waiting in security queues, this technology will help speed up the process ensuring you spend more time relaxing with a coffee in our departures hall.”
