Police are investigating after the driver of a stationary car was allegedly carjacked at gunpoint and knifepoint on Launceston’s Invermay Road last night.
The suspect, described as a man with a large build, green eyes, brown curly hair and an unkempt beard, is believed to have stolen the car around 6:30pm.
“It is alleged a man has approached the vehicle, threatened the owner whilst in possession of a knife and a firearm and demanded the vehicle,” Police said.
“The owner has exited the vehicle and the man has driven off along Invermay Road.”
He later abandoned it burnt out near Waverley Lake.
Police say the owner was unharmed and believe the incident was “isolated and targeted”.
Anyone who witnessed the Blue Nissan X-Trail in the area at the time is asked to contact Police or Crimestoppers.
