A Launceston dad has finally discovered he has been sitting on a $2.5 million TattsLotto win after belatedly checking a ticket given as a Father’s Day gift.

The fortunate Tasmanian and his wife claimed one of eight division one prizes from TattsLotto draw 4605 held on September 6, with each winner receiving $2.5 million.

The winning ticket remained unclaimed for more than a week as it wasn’t registered, leaving lottery officials waiting for the winner to come forward.

“Oh my god!” the winning wife laughed when an official from The Lott confirmed their luck.

“I bought this ticket for my partner for Father’s Day, but he only checked it last week. We were both so shocked. We didn’t know if the win was right!”

The couple explained they wanted to verify the win at their local newsagency after returning from a trip to Hobart.

“We’ve honestly checked it that many times,” she added.

With their newfound wealth, the Launceston duo plans to enter the property market.

“We will buy a house! We can’t wait,” she said.

The winning entry was purchased at Racecourse Newsagency & Gifts in the Centro Launceston shopping centre.

Store owner Kristy Bannister said she was excited about selling her first division one winning ticket since taking ownership last November.

“I jumped off my couch at home in disbelief,” Bannister said.

“It makes our job worth every minute knowing how many lives we can change. We’ve cracked open the champagne to celebrate our winner.”

The lucky ticket contained the winning numbers 43, 6, 21, 10, 42 and 16.

Just yesterday, a Claremont couple claimed a $2 million prize from the September 13 draw, planning to share their fortune with family members.
