A young Launceston singer has turned all four chairs on The Voice Australia during the show’s blind auditions.
Cody Gunton, 23, impressed the judges with his rendition of judge Adam Lambert’s ‘Whataya Want From Me’ on Tuesday night.
The electrician, who works nine-to-five and sings on the side, received turned chairs from Judges Lambert, Guy Sebastian, Kate Miller-Heidke and LeAnn Rimes.
“I sing because I’ve always loved it since I could talk,” Gunton said before his audition.
“The Voice is an opportunity for me to get a music career. Hopefully that means I can quit my day job.”
After his performance, the judges praised Gunton’s “great” voice and “handsome” looks.
“You sound great. You gave me, like, the angst it needs emotionally, but it didn’t seem like it was too hard for you. It didn’t seem like you were straining which is great,” Lambert said.
He encouraged Gunston to continue getting out of his comfort zone and “be a rock star”.
Judge Guy Sebastian said Gunston sounds similar to The Script, The Fray or even Muse, while LeAnn Rimes said he has an ‘earthy’ feel to his voice which could even work well in country.
Gunton chose Lambert as his coach, saying he could “really lead me of where I feel like I probably want my voice to sit”.
“It’s gonna be great,” Lambert said.
