A 23-year-old learner motorcyclist is facing court after allegedly riding at 166km/h on the Bass Highway, more than double his permitted speed limit.
Police intercepted the Devonport man near Paramatta Creek around 5pm on Wednesday, allegedly travelling at speeds that exceeded his learner licence restriction by 86km/h.
Inspector Adam Spencer said the rider, who is legally limited to 80km/h as a learner, had put numerous lives at risk.
“To ride at more than double the learner speed limit is reckless and unacceptable,” Spencer said.
“This kind of behaviour puts the lives of not only the rider but also other road users at extreme risk.”

Tasmania Police have confiscated the man’s black Yamaha YZF motorcycle and he will face charges.
Police are seeking anyone with dash-cam footage of the black Yamaha motorcycle travelling westbound on the Bass Highway from Launceston to Sassafras between 4pm and 5pm on Wednesday to come forward..
