Three trails bikers have been rescued after they became lost in the Dial Ranges near Penguin overnight.

The trio, who were missing for close to 12 hours, were forced to stop riding after one of their motorbikes broke down.

Police say officers were alerted to the missing bikers, aged 26, 24 and 11, at around 6pm on Saturday night.

The men and child were unable to be contacted by phone and local police were unable to locate the missing bikers.

It was only after the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was dispatched that the trio were spotted near a bush track, in the vicinity of Mount Gnomon, at 5am on Sunday.

Acting Sergeant Kendall Buckley said all three have since returned to their family uninjured.

She reminded people who venture out in the wilderness to be prepared, to let someone know where they are going and to carry a personal locator beacon.
