A log truck that tipped over and lost its load has caused significant damage to a former church property in Glengarry.
The truck was traveling down Frankford Road when it failed to negotiate a right-hand turn, ripping into a power pole from the ground and causing wires to fall onto dry grass, igniting a fire on Thursday afternoon.
The local fire brigade say the scene, that saw logs scattered across the highway, was “complex and dynamic”.
“Access to the grass fire was also now hindered by the live power lines laying across the road,” the Glengarry Volunteer Fire Brigade said.

“The ejected logs continued down the road for several hundred metres at speed and impacted a house, previously converted from a church, causing substantial structural damage.”
They said one of the logs had passed entirely through the building.

“Several more logs impacted the area and roadway, one of which also collided with an oncoming vehicle,” the brigade said.
The homeowner was away at the time, but it was discovered that they often sat near where the log had partially emerged.
“Thankfully and amazingly, no serious injuries were sustained and work continued into the night to recover the logs and repair the road surface.”
The driver of the truck, a 23-year-old man from Cressy, managed to crawl out of the cab with only a broken collarbone.

He was treated at the scene and taken to the Launceston General Hospital.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or may have dashcam footage to come forward with information.
