Tasmania’s newest retreat in the state’s oldest National Park has opened after close to 10 years of hard work.
Located about 1 hour north-west of Hobart in the Derwent Valley, the new Mount Field Retreat boasts ‘some of the most breathtaking wilderness experiences’ in Tasmania.
Spearheaded by Rachel and Greg Power, the development contains multiple one and two bedroom units alongside the Waterfalls Cafe & Gallery.
The couple have ran the award-winning Waterfalls Cafe & Gallery for the last 10 years.

Rachel and Greg bought the land for the Retreat nine years ago, and have finally been able to complete the project this year.
Speaking at the official opening, Premier and Minister for Tourism Jeremy Rockliff said the area is popular among tourists and locals, with around 104,000 visitors stopping at the Russell Falls/Mt Field National Park areas in 2022 alone.

“I am confident that with the opening of this retreat, this visitor demand will only grow further for the Derwent Valley region, and each surrounding small business will experience nothing but a positive impact,” the Premier said.
Destination Southern Tasmania CEO Alex Heroys said Mt Field Retreat will also house a state-of-the art conference centre soon.
“There is no doubt that this development will help us to achieve greater regional dispersal with people staying longer in this stunning part of our State” he said.
