The final pier of the new Bridgewater Bridge will be in place from tonight, marking a major step forward for the $786 million link over the River Derwent.
The critical infrastructure project remains on schedule and within budget, with completion slated for July 2025.
New Infrastructure Minister Kerry Vincent visited the construction site on Tuesday to see how the project was taking shape.
“To have these last two piers poured is a great milestone which now says that we’re totally out of the water and we’re up to the superstructure part of the job,” he said.

“To see it all coming together now is incredible. 90% of the segments have been poured and 50% are already in place.”
Tomorrow, 42 piers, each containing up to 310 tonnes of concrete and 35 tonnes of steel, will stand as the foundation for the vital connection.

“This project has been handled fantastically. It’s on budget, on time,” Vincent said.
Federal Member for Lyons Brian Mitchell said the “wonderful partnership” between the federal and state government’s has been a long time coming.
“People have been promising a Bridgewater Bridge, a new Bridgewater Bridge for decades and here it is finally happening,” he said.
“The last two piers [are] being poured tonight and then they can get really started on the superstructure.”

“We hope to have cars driving over this bridge by mid next year.”
The bridge will feature two lanes of traffic in each direction, a shared path for cyclists and pedestrians and sufficient clearance for boats on the river.
