Man allegedly assaults good samaritans after crashing car in Huon Valley

A man from Dover is facing several charges after allegedly crashing a car into a tree on the Huon Highway before assaulting nearby residents who came to his aid.

The 33-year-old was arrested following the incident on the highway at Glendevie in the early hours of Thursday morning.

Police were called to the scene around 12:30am after receiving reports of a single-vehicle crash involving a blue Hyundai Excel.

The man, who was uninjured in the crash, reportedly became aggressive towards residents who had come to his aid and followed them into their home.

He then allegedly threatened the residents and armed himself with items found inside the home.

Officers arrived a short time later and arrested the man at the scene.

He has since been charged with disqualified driving, drink driving, aggravated burglary and criminal assault.

Police are asking anyone who may have seen a blue Hyundai Excel travelling on the Huon Highway between Dover and Glendevie around the time of the incident to come forward.
