Man, 34, in custody after allegedly arming himself at Longford supermarket

A 34-year-old man is in custody after police allege he armed himself with a knife and scissors stolen from a supermarket in Longford, in northern Tasmania, this morning.

Police allege the man walked into the supermarket at a complex on Wellington Street at around 9:40am and took the knife and scissors from the store.

A Tasmania Police spokesperson said no specific threats were made, but it was “a very confronting incident for customers and staff”.

He was taken into custody without incident.

Police said there was no ongoing risk to the public.

Anyone who was in or near the supermarket complex and saw the man and has not already spoken to police is asked to contact police and quote ESCAD 102-10102026.
