Man charged after alleged cricket bat assault in Hobart’s north

A man has been charged with assault after another man was allegedly struck with a cricket bat in Hobart’s northern suburbs.

Police said the incident occurred near the intersection of Euston Street and Colston Street in Claremont about 4:35pm on Sunday.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital for treatment.

Witnesses reported seeing blood on the road following the alleged attack.

A 42-year-old man has been charged with assault and aggravated assault.

Police said investigations were continuing and appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

“Anyone with information or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage of the incident is asked to contact police on 131 444,” a police spokesperson said.

Police have not released details about what led to the alleged assault or whether the men were known to each other.

The matter is now before the courts.
