Man charged after crashing car while fleeing police in Launceston

A 29-year-old man has been arrested and charged with multiple offences after allegedly crashing a car while trying to flee police in Launceston overnight.

Police spotted a green Ford Festiva driving along Bathurst Street around 1:20am and activated lights and sirens to pull the vehicle over due to its driving behaviour.

The car immediately turned into Frederick Street, ran a red light, then hit a roundabout and rolled multiple times.

The driver fled the scene on foot but was arrested nearby.

He was taken to Launceston General Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The man was charged with evading police in aggravated circumstances, reckless driving, using a vehicle while its registration was suspended, unlawful possession of property and possessing a controlled plant or its products.

Police are asking anyone who saw a green Ford in the area at the time to come forward, including anyone with dash cam footage.
