A man has been charged over at least 11 separate fires across northern Tasmania, including a significant blaze at Breadalbane.
The charges follow an investigation by Longford police, with help from the Tasmania Fire Service.
Police say the fires were deliberately lit between Perth and Ulverstone from August 2025 to April 2026.
A 29yo Nile man was charged earlier this year with arson and unlawfully setting fire to vegetation over a fire at a public toilet block in Perth.
He will now face another eight fire-related charges over deliberately lit fires at Sassafras, Whitemore, Longford, Perth and Breadalbane.
Inspector Craig Fox said the Breadalbane fires in April had been “significant”.
“Thankfully, nobody was injured during these fires, however there is always a very high risk to the public when fires are deliberately lit due to the unpredictable nature of these incidents,” he said.
“While our investigation is ongoing and we are continuing to look at several fires within the region, the charges laid so far are the result of some great investigative work.”
The man is expected to appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court on September 24.
