A 20-year-old man from Tasmania’s North-West has been charged with three counts of indecent assault after he allegedly approached children at a local child care centre on Wednesday afternoon.
According to police, the man did not enter the centre’s yard, but instead made contact with the children through a fence.
“Staff of the centre took immediate action to ensure the safety of all the children in the centre, and the man was removed from the area,” police say.
All children and families involved in the incident have been provided with appropriate counselling and support, and the child care centre is continuing to assist police with their investigation.
The man has been bailed with conditions and is set to appear in Burnie Magistrates Court on May 16 at 9:30AM.
Police have reassured the public that this is an isolated incident, and they are taking necessary steps to ensure the ongoing safety of children in the community.
