Man dies in hospital following serious weekend assault on Warwick Street in Hobart

A man has died in hospital from injuries sustained during an alleged serious assault incident in Hobart on the weekend.

The 61-year-old was rushed to the Royal Hobart Hospital at around 11am on Sunday after police were called to the Warwick Street address following a “report of a man being injured”.

The alleged offender, a 57-year-old man, was arrested and later charged with causing grievous bodily harm following the incident.

He appeared in the Hobart Magistrates Court on Tuesday and was remanded in custody.

His next court appearance is scheduled for April 8, as detectives from the Hobart Criminal Investigation Branch continue to investigate the incident.

It is understood the men were staying in a homeless shelter in the area.
