Justice Helen Wood called the murder a ‘brutal and vicious attack’ carried out for reasons of anger and resentment and imposed a non-parole period of 17 years.

Wake was 60-years-old when he fatally stabbed the 52-year-old at her Mornington home while her children were present.

Initially, he pleaded not guilty, but nearly two years later, in 2023, he changed his plea to guilty, stating, “I’m guilty, your Honour”.

Wake’s daughter Romany took to the ‘Rachel’s Voice’ page on social media to say: “Whilst this isn’t going to bring mum back, it’s a start of justice and creating change.”

“See you later alligator, I love you,” she wrote.
