‘Spectacular’ shooting star lights up Tasmania’s night sky

People across Tasmania have been stunned by a ‘spectacular’ shooting star display tonight.

The meteor-type object was seen burning through the earth’s atmosphere by sky gazers across both Hobart and Launceston shortly after 9:20pm on Monday

One Trevallyn resident said she saw the star shoot across the sky before ‘exploding’ a few seconds later.

The BOM are forecasting a mostly cloudy night across the state, with showers about the north and west and possible gusty thunderstorms.

Possible small hail about the west and far south and snowfalls lowering to around 800 metres along with fresh and gusty west to northwesterly winds are also expected tonight.
