Meth, MDMA and $5,000 cash seized in late-night Burnie traffic stop

Police have seized methylamphetamine, MDMA pills and $5,000 in cash after pulling over a vehicle in the north-west on Friday night.

Officers stopped the car in the Burnie suburb of Montello around 11:45pm.

They allegedly found a quantity of drugs, drug paraphernalia and cash during a search of the vehicle and its two occupants.

A 58-year-old man and a 51-year-old woman, both from Smithton, were arrested at the scene.

The man has been charged with trafficking in a controlled substance and dealing in the proceeds of crime.

The woman faces charges including drug possession and selling a controlled drug.

Both have been released on bail and will appear in court at a later date.

“Police place a high priority on stamping out the distribution of illicit drugs in our community,” police said.
