Two independent MPs who were recently kicked out of the Jacqui Lambie Network have reached a new agreement with the Tasmanian Government.
Miriam Beswick and Rebekah Pentland have recommitted to providing confidence and supply to Premier Jeremy Rockliff’s government, a move that will provide “continued certainty and stability”.
The pair were thrown from the Jacqui Lambie Network on Saturday after a falling out with the senator over a failure to stick to the party’s values.
In a letter to the Premier, Beswick and Pentland said they would support the government through no-confidence motions “except where the issues raised involve corruption, malfeasance or serious misbehaviour” by the Premier or Ministers.
They also pledged to back all money bills, carefully consider censure motions and assess proposed legislation based on its merits.
“Should we intend to vote against the government on any matter before the house, we will seek to provide you with notice at the earliest opportunity,” they wrote.
Rockliff thanked Beswick and Pentland for their “productive and collaborative approach” and said he looked forward to continuing to work with them “in the best interests of the Tasmanian people”.
The agreement includes regular meetings and the retention of various clauses from their original agreement signed when they were members of the Jacqui Lambie Network.
