Two missing bushwalkers have been found “safe and well” by search and rescue teams after spending a night lost in the remote Tasmanian wilderness.
Both men, who are in their 60s, activated a personal locator beacon around 9:00pm on Monday night while they were out for what was supposed to be a day hike in the Loddon Range area near Derwent Bridge.
Sergeant Damian Bidgood said ground crews and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter dedicated the entire day yesterday to searching for the pair after they couldn’t reach them on Monday.
“The search crews are navigating steep terrain, thick vegetation, with low cloud and rain making conditions difficult,” Bidgood said.

The walkers were spotted shortly after 5:00pm yesterday by crews on the rescue helicopter.
A ground crew and paramedics were sent to retrieve the men, as the difficult terrain and bad weather made it “too challenging for a winching rescue”.
Both men were reportedly able to walk back to their vehicle after the incident.
