Moonah man ‘caught in the act’ during New Town burglary

A Moonah man has been charged with multiple offences after he was ‘caught in the act’ during a burglary in New Town yesterday.

The 20-year-old was found inside a house in the suburb around 9AM, attempting to steal jewellery, cash and electronic devices.

According to the Tasmania Police, the burglar was disturbed by someone in the house, forcing him to flee with a large quantity of stolen property.

Officers located and arrest the man nearby shortly after before recovering and returning all stolen items to their rightful owners.

The accused faces charges of aggravated burglary, stealing, unlawful possession of property, being found prepared for the commission of a crime and unlawfully possessing a dangerous article in a public place.

He was bailed and will appear before the Hobart Magistrates Court at a later date.
