Updated 3:30pm, Tuesday December 12: A woman has been rushed to hospital after being trapped underneath a car that was pushed through the front doors of a Kingston GP this afternoon.
The serious crash forced the closure of the car park outside the Kingborough Medical Centre shortly after 1:30pm on Tuesday, with first responders arriving quickly and working ‘extremely carefully’ to remove her from underneath the vehicle.
Tasmania Police Inspector Colin Reily described the incident as “highly unusual” and said it “just happened out of nowhere”.
“A car has travelled through the car park [and] collided quite heavily with a parked vehicle. That parked vehicle has then gone into the medical practice and we’ve had a person trapped by that vehicle,” Reily said.

“When Police arrived, the vehicle was inside the medical centre and where its gone through the glass structure was a waiting area for patients.”
He said the trapped woman was taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital in a stable condition after being removed from underneath the vehicle.

“For an area that’s heavily trafficked by pedestrians at this time of the day, we were very fortunate to only have one injured person. No one else was injured inside the practice.”
Reily said it was still too early to determine if the driver had suffered a medical episode, but said they were treated by paramedics at the scene and are assisting with investigations.
“The initial vehicle has travelled some distance, up to 20 metres or so, before it’s hit the parked car … There’s been a fair bit of speed to cause a parked vehicle to penetrate into the building.”
Crash investigators are currently conducting examinations to determine the cause of the incident.

2pm, Tuesday December 12: Police say ‘multiple people’ have been injured after a car smashed through the front doors of Kingborough Medical Centre in Kingston this afternoon.
Police ask people to avoid the area on John Street until further notice and say the serious crash has closed the car park.

“At this stage a number of people have been injured. Details of injures are not yet known,” a spokesperson said.
Witnesses at the scene tell Pulse they saw a woman walking on the footpath in front of the vehicle when the incident occurred.
Police confirmed that one person has been injured, however the severity of their injuries is not yet known.
Kingston Inspector Colin Riley is expected to provide an update shortly after 3:00pm.
