A Tasmanian teacher who was last seen in late 2017 is now the subject of a “criminal investigation”, police say.
66-year-old Launceston man Bruce Fairfax disappeared from the Duckhole Lake Track area at Strathblane in Southern Tasmania on October 14, 2017.
Tasmania Police conducted extensive searches of the area at the time, but Fairfax was never located.
Detective Acting Inspector Michael Foster said Kingston CIB is re-opening the investigation and will be re-interviewing previous witnesses while actively seeking any new information from the public.
“As with any missing persons investigation, the case remains open until we find answers,” he said.
“While this is now a criminal investigation, our detectives have not ruled anything out, and will consider all possibilities relating to Bruce’s disappearance.”
“We urge anyone with new information to come forward and provide it to police.”
