The new Bridgewater Bridge, Tasmania’s largest ever transport infrastructure project, will open to the public next month.
The bridge, which connects both sides of the River Derwent at Bridgewater, will officially open to traffic on June 2.
Minister for Infrastructure Kerry Vincent says locals will have the opportunity to walk across the bridge before vehicles take over.
“We’re inviting the community to come along to walk the bridge from 10am on Sunday, June 1, before the bridge officially opens to traffic,” Vincent said.

The community celebration will include food vendors, live entertainment and family activities, giving Tasmanians a unique chance to experience the landmark project on foot.
The $786 million bridge is a joint investment between the Australian and Tasmanian governments.

“This once-in-a-generation project will improve travel times, increase safety and better connect the communities either side of the bridge,” Vincent said.
The opening will follow more than 900 days of construction and decades of planning.
