5 new SES Community Protection Flood Guides have been launched in an effort to help prepare Tasmania’s flood prone communities.

Emergency Management Minister Felix Ellis said floods “can happen in a flash” and wants to ensure everyone understands the risks “where they live and work”.

Community Protection Flood Guides have now been launched for Geeveston, Orford, Railton, St Marys and South Hobart.

“The plans help inform communities of their flood risks, how they can prepare their homes and properties, what they should do if there is a flood, safe escape routes, triggers for action, and where to go for more information,” said Minister Ellis.

Tasmania’s State Emergency Service is now working with other flood-prone communities to produce even more guides.

Information about how communities can prepare for flood events can be found on the Tasmania SES website.
