A new frozen yoghurt shop at Kingston Beach has served over 10,000 cups in its first week of operation.
Frosty Dog opened at Salty Dog following two years of renovations, with director and part-owner James Polanowski saying the response had been “absolutely incredible”.
“We lost our branded cups in the first week, and we had 10,000 cups, so yeah [it’s been] huge,” he said.
The concept came from Polonowski’s business partner, who moved to Tasmania from Melbourne and missed having access to frozen yoghurt.

“He brought the idea to me, and I thought, yeah, what a great idea,” Polonowski said.
“I wasn’t completely sold to start with, but yeah, look at it, and it’s been going off ever since.”

The shop offers six rotating flavours throughout the week, with coconut and salted caramel proving the most popular options so far.
Polonowski said they deliberately delayed the opening despite finishing renovations a few weeks earlier.
“We were a little bit scared about opening over the school holidays, and we thought it was going to put too much pressure on the business,” he said.
A petition circulated last year calling for frozen yoghurt chain Yochi to establish a Tasmanian presence.

Salty Dog took the opportunity.
“I think we can expand on this too,” Polonowski said.
“Who knows what will happen in the future? We might see more Frosty Dog sites somewhere else.”
The frozen yoghurt shop employs three staff members, while the broader Salty Dog venue has 58 employees on the books.

Polonowski has owned the beachside location for eight years and credits strong community support for the venue’s success.
