The Tasmania JackJumpers are one step closer to realising their dream of a new $15 million high-performance centre.
Planning documents have today been put on display by the Kingborough Council.
The state-of-the-art facility, spanning approximately 5,500 square metres, will become the heart of the club’s operations upon completion.
The site within the Kingborough Sports Precinct was announced in May, replacing previous plans to build it at Wilkinsons Point in Glenorchy.
It will include the demolition of the existing car club track and sheds for the construction of a training court, health facilities and administration areas.
Minister for Sports and Events Nick Duigan said the wider precinct will soon be transformed into a “central recreational hub” for the state.
Just yesterday he confirmed the Tasmania Football Club would be moving in next door, with their $70 million AFL high-performance centre to be located 100 metres away.
“This site will create further opportunities for our young basketballers and provide development pathways for the next generation,” he said.
The development application will be advertised for two weeks, with hopes that the site could gain approval before Christmas.
