A proposal for a new residential subdivision in the small, north-east Tasmanian town of Beechford could potentially ‘almost double’ the number of houses in the area.
Plans for the 40-lot subdivision on a seven-hectare block on Davis Street have recently been submitted to the George Town Council.
If approved and built, the development would increase the number of available houses in the town, which currently stands at 62 according to census data.
The proposed plan includes the creation of new roads within the subdivision, connecting to cul-de-sacs, which will provide quick access to Davis Street.
The proposed lots vary in size, ranging from 1300 square metres, with the largest lot covering 2662 square metres.
“The proposed lots are sized generously to the zone to allow for on-site servicing and to be sympathetic to the surrounding development,” the application read.
“Each lot can accommodate a dwelling with appropriate setbacks according to the zone requirements.
The plan suggests that the development is a good fit for the surrounding character and represents a positive land use and development outcome.
The community has until December 11 to provide feedback on the development application to the George Town Council.
