A teenage girl spent New Year’s Eve in the Launceston General Hospital after she was struck by a vehicle on a beach in northern Tasmania on Sunday.

The 18-year-old was reportedly run down in the Sandy Point 4WD reserve between Bridport and Bellingham at around 8pm on December 31.

Police have described the driver as a short man with a small build, possibly in his late teens to early 20s, with light coloured hair.

They believe the vehicle involved was a newer model white dual cab ute, likely a Ford Ranger, which ‘sustained damage to the front end’ during the incident.

The driver is alleged to have left the scene without providing any contact details and had three female passengers in the vehicle at the time.

Anyone who may have information about the driver’s identity is urged to contact Tasmania Police or Crimestoppers anonymously.
