A Newnham mother has had a devastating start to the new year after her car was stolen and set on fire.
The silver LDV D90 was reportedly taken in the early hours of Friday morning before being set alight in Mayfield.
Sharing the news online, owner Adriana Cash said the fire destroyed her children’s prams, toys and new Christmas presents.
Although there wasn’t much left of the car, Cash said police were able to identify the vehicle through one visible number plate and trace it back to her.
“It makes me so sad and angry that people do this in the first place, let alone to take someone’s car with baby and kids toys and stuff in it for the sole purpose of destroying it,” she wrote.
“My poor son has lost his new Christmas scooter and so many loved toys as well as many of my own personal belongings.”
Despite the unfortunate experience, Cash was touched by the support she received from the community, with people offering car seats and prams.
“Other people’s generosity gives me so much reassurance.”
“If you are the one who stole it I hope you realise how hard you’ve made things for a family with two little people … I wish you’d at least had the decency to leave the car not completely burnt out so I could get my stuff out of it.”
The incident remains under investigation by Tasmania Police.
