A teenage P-plater has been disqualified from driving for three months after being caught travelling 40km/h over his licence speed limit on the Bass Highway.
Highway patrol officers intercepted the 19-year-old at West Ulverstone about 1:20pm on Monday.
The P1 provisional licence holder was travelling at 140km/h – 30km/h above the posted speed limit and well beyond the 100km/h restriction for learner and provisional drivers.
Police also discovered the vehicle was unregistered and uninsured.
The driver was slapped with infringement notices totalling $1,383.75.

The incident comes amid what Tasmania Police described as “disappointing high-risk driving behaviour” in the western district.
In the past seven days alone, officers have issued 153 speeding infringements, 17 fines for mobile phone use and five for failing to wear a seatbelt.
20 motorists were also detected driving with illicit drugs in their system, including amphetamines, methamphetamines, cocaine, cannabis and opiates.
“These behaviours significantly increase the risk of serious injury or death and place innocent road users in danger,” police said.
In a separate incident on Sunday, a 37-year-old Latrobe man attempted to evade police in East Devonport.
The man fled onto private farmland and tried to hide before officers located and arrested him a short time later.
He returned positive tests for both alcohol and illicit drugs and his vehicle was confiscated.
The man has since been charged with evading police, drink-driving and driving while suspended.
He may face further drug-driving charges pending analysis and has been bailed to appear in court at a later date, police said.
