A suspected attempted kidnapping at a Hobart school is being investigated by Police after an ‘unknown man’ approached a young child and asked him to ‘get into his car’.
In a letter seen by Pulse, Hutchins School principal Rob McEwan told parents the man approached the year 3 student at the top of Churchill Avenue around school pick up time at 3:15pm on Thursday afternoon.
He said the incident happened near the entrance to the Early Learning Centre, where “many of [the] students are collected by parents and carers.”
“The quick and decisive actions of the Year 3 student are to be highly commended.”

“He immediately ran towards the Early Learning Centre gate to notify staff.”
Police confirmed an investigation into the incident is underway, with the school treating it as an attempted abduction and asking parents to ‘calmly reiterate personal safety messages’ to their children.
“I ask that all parents and carers, especially those with children in the Early Learning Centre and Junior School, calmly reiterate personal safety messages and the need for children to be wary of strangers.”
