A missing Burnie parking meter has washed up on a local beach, months after it was reportedly removed from a local street.

The meter was found on the Burnie Waterfront on Monday morning, leaving the community baffled as to how it ended up there.

Speaking to Pulse, Burnie Mayor Teeny Brumby confirmed the meter is likely the one that went missing from Mount Street approximately three months ago.

“The pictured item is what remains of the meter, as the top half of the meter head is missing and appears to have been cut-off to enable the thieves to access the money inside,” she said.

“Council officers did attempt to collect the meter … but were unable to do so as the item was under water due to the incoming tide.”

She said the what’s left of the meter will be retrieved once the tide allows.
