Parking meters on the North Hobart strip will be removed in the coming weeks after sitting switched off and hooded for a year and a half.
A total of eight meters will be taken away after intense backlash and numerous complaints from businesses and customers in the area saw them switched off 18 months ago.
Councillor John Kelly, who moved the motion on Monday, said that the parking meters had a “psychological barrier” effect on people who wanted to stop in North Hobart, creating an “incredibly bad impact” on trade.
Further changes to North Hobart parking, including changing the parking time limits and installing digital signage, were deferred to a later date.
