7PM: A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Hobart and surrounding areas, with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms expected tonight.
The SES say heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding “is likely”.
Thunder is reportedly already being heard across Hobart’s northern suburbs and in the Huon Valley, and conditions are expected to worsen over the next hour.

EARLIER: Residents in parts of Tasmania have gone on thunderstorm watch this afternoon following a severe warning for heavy rainfall.
The warning comes as a trough lingering over Tasmania with very humid air is generating slow moving showers and thunderstorms across the state, leading to isolated heavy rainfall.
The Bureau of Meteorology are forecasting that the severe thunderstorms are likely to produce heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding in the warning area over the next several hours.

The BoM advises people to stay indoors, avoid driving, and stay away from creeks and storm drains.
According to the BoM, locations that may be affected by the warning include Launceston, Campbell Town, Longford, Scottsdale, Geeveston, and Dover.
