A pedestrian has been airlifted to Melbourne in critical condition following an incident involving a vehicle at Cooee Point Reserve near Burnie late last night.
Emergency services responded to calls at Cooee Road around midnight after reports that a person had been struck by a vehicle.
The injured pedestrian, whose age has not been released, initially received treatment at the North-West Regional Hospital for serious injuries before being flown interstate.
Tasmania Police confirmed that a 17-year-old boy, who was allegedly driving the vehicle involved, presented himself to Burnie Police Station shortly after the incident occurred.
“The driver … was assisting police with their inquiries,” a spokesperson said.
“Investigations into the circumstances leading up to the crash are ongoing.”
Authorities are appealing for witnesses to come forward with information that could assist the investigation.
