Updated 3:45pm, Tuesday: A man in his 50s has died in a crash in Tasmania’s north-west, with authorities believing a medical episode triggered the fatal incident.
Police said the man was driving on Marine Esplanade at Stanley around midday when he appeared to suffer a medical emergency.
Police said this caused his vehicle to strike another car, which then hit a pedestrian.
The pedestrian sustained serious injuries and has been airlifted to the Royal Hobart Hospital.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
Earlier: Police say a pedestrian and a driver are both being treated for injuries after a crash in the tourist town of Stanley on Tasmania’s north-west coast.
Numerous emergency services are at the crash on Marine Esplanade near the caravan parking area.
Police say the crash involves two vehicles and a pedestrian.
“A driver is receiving medical assistance at the scene for what is believed to be a medical episode,” police said.
“A pedestrian is receiving medical assistance at the scene for what are believed to be non-life-threatening injuries.”
Police earlier said one person had sustained serious injuries.
“Motorists are asked to avoid the area until the scene is cleared,” police said.
