TasNetworks crews were called to the scene to repair the damaged infrastructure, which caused an outage to about 1,263 customers.

Police have since reopened the highway to all traffic and have urged motorists to drive to the conditions.

“One person has been taken to hospital as a result of this crash with serious injuries reported,” police said.

“They remain in a stable condition.”

The crash comes as a severe weather warning for strong winds and rain remains in place for much of the state.
