PHOTOS: Southern Lights Aurora lights up Tasmanian night sky

The Southern Lights Aurora lit up the Tasmanian night sky overnight, with people across the state able to catch a glimpse of the ‘magical spectacle’.

First spotted with just the naked eye shortly before 8pm on Tuesday, Aurora chasers quickly took to social media to share their sightings and photos.

Some even believed they had spotted ‘STEVE’ – Strong Thermal Emission Velocity Enhancement – Capturing the atmospheric optical phenomenon that appears as a purple and green light ribbon in the sky.
