Plans have been unveiled for a new 12-storey office building in Hobart’s CBD, which proponents say would transform a quiet stretch of the city.

The building is slated to take over the current Hillsong Church site on the corner of Liverpool and Harrington streets, a site that was once home to a Spotlight store.

Peaking at 46 metres high, the development would offer 15,010 square metres of office space for a range of potential tenants.

The design includes a pedestrian link above the Hobart rivulet and a ‘pocket park’ for the community.

The 5 ‘Greenstar’ building would include facilities to accomodate 114 bicycles and 32 carparks.

Former AFL player Nick Riewoldt is part of the company behind the proposal, Techne Invest, alongside Scott Vickers-Willis and Matt O’Halloran.

City of Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds told Pulse she believes the build will be “a great project for the CBD”, but will await expert advice.

“I need to keep an open mind and consider the professional officer advice as I need to do part of the planning authority,” she said.

Councillor Ryan Posseltt said he too was “very excited” about the project.

“I’ve known about it for a few months and really can’t wait to see this transformative project at the old spotlight site,” he said.
