A 70-year-old woman who went missing from West Hobart has been found safe, after spending more than 24 hours outdoors in cold conditions.
The woman was located by members of the public around 9:45pm on Wednesday, not far from her home.
She had been reported missing around 5:30pm on Tuesday, sparking a search across West Hobart and South Hobart.
She was last seen walking on Melville Street, wearing dark pants, a red top and a blue/grey knee-length puffer-style jacket.
Police issued public appeals on Tuesday evening and again on Wednesday morning, asking anyone with information or CCTV footage to come forward.
Inspector Brenda Orr said the woman had no serious injuries but was fatigued and showing the effects of exposure.
“This is a wonderful result for her family, who are obviously very relieved to have her safely home,” Orr said.
She said the woman had gone without food or drink for more than a day.
“She is very fatigued and is showing some physical effects of exposure to the cold weather and being without food or drink for more than 24 hours.”
“But overall, she is well, is now safely back at home and is recovering.”
Police are continuing to investigate how the woman went missing and where she had been until she was found.
