Police charge man after George Town shooting, victim in intensive care

A man has been charged following a shooting incident in George Town that left a 40-year-old man with serious injuries.

The 45-year-old from Prospect is facing wounding, recklessly discharging a firearm, possession of a prohibited firearm and other firearm and drug-related charges following the Thursday morning clash.

“The victim has been transferred to the intensive care unit at the Royal Hobart Hospital, where his condition is considered serious but stable,” police said.

Police said the victim and the accused are known to each other and have confirmed that three stolen firearms and a large quantity of ammunition were found during the investigation.

The victim was reportedly shot outside an address on Davidson Street just before 4am on Thursday.

He then went to a Davies Street address to seek assistance.

The alleged offender was located at a property in George Town around 7am and arrested.

He has been held in custody and will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court on Friday.
